24-06-11 Faith, Hope and Love in Practice
Boars Hill, Oxfordshire Workshop: Ravi Ravindra
Faith, hope and love are at the heart of all spiritual practice, East or West, traditional or modern. The crowning glory of saints and sages in all traditions and at all times, these very dynamic sources of energy can also lead to fanaticism, fear and tyranny, and thus a constant vigilance is required.

This workshop will explore the way this sacred triumvirate has been understood in the New Testament and the Bhagavad Gita, and in the teachings of two contemporary masters, Gurdjieff and Krishnamurti. The emphasis will be on practice in our daily lives

Develop a network in the area for group activities, future meetings and sharing of ideas •  Meet people of like mind and offer a connecting point for others •  Share how we experience and understand the current global and national situation•  Explore what insights this challenge is bringing us? •  Discuss what we might do together that we cannot do so well alone?

Spiritual Practice in Daily Life in the Light of the Great Traditions

Aylesford Facilitator: Ravi Ravindra

The Wrekin Forum is delighted to present a residential weekend at historic Aylesford Priory in the beautiful Kent countryside, with eminent international speaker Ravi Ravindra, from 6 pm Fri 23 April to 4 pm Sun 25 April. Rooms in the Guest House are described as simple but comfortable, with a range of single, double, twin, and family rooms (just a few ensuite, because of the age of the building). A special Early Bird rate is available to those booking and paying in full by 1 March. The great spiritual traditions of the East and of the West have very much emphasized taking our world and our daily life in this world seriously. They invite us to realize our Heavenly as well as our earthly parentage, and they suggest practical ways to bring about a marriage of Heaven and earth and to work towards living in time in the light of eternal verities. The workshop-seminar will be based on the insights derived from an extensive study and practice of the teachings to be found in the gospels, including the non-canonical ones, the sacred texts of India, and the teachings of some contemporary masters such as G. Gurdjieff and J. Krishnamurti.  Participants will be invited to try some physical and psychological exercises

Notting Hill London World Book Launch Event

This is the title of a new book containing many lectures that Sir George Trevelyan gave during the 1960s-1980s. We will be launching this publication by Godstow Press on this evening which includes the ninth Sir George Trevelyan memorial lecture which will be given by David Lorimer. We will also have an opportunity to enjoy exchanging ideas with others in cafe style conversations on how Sir George's vision might best be carried forward today. We do hope that you may be able to join us for supper and this event and also forward these details to those of your friends and family within reach of the London area. The changing times, for which Sir George was a prophetic voice, are now looming large in our awareness and the Wrekin Trust is committed to continue the work of raising consciousness that Sir George commenced. Venue: Essex Unitarian Church 112 Palace Gardens Terrace, Notting Hill Gate, London W8 4RT. Time 6.30pm - 9.30pm.

23-05-08 Practical Mysticism: The Way of the Future
Stroud
(Hawkwood)
A three day workshop with William Meader

For Centuries mysticism has been a major force in our quest to experience God and the spiritual dimension of life. Our yearning to find relationship with the divine is ancient, and has been an instinctual impulse with us since the dawning hour of humankind. Mysticism which has been an important aspect of all the major faiths is now gradually evolving into an approach to God, which integrates the inner, and the outer aspects of life and brings a contemporary understanding of spiritual living. This approach is called practical mysticism. In this weekend workshop the nature and application of practical mysticism will be presented. Listed below are a few of the topics to be presented.

  • The transformation of the mystic in to the practical mystic
  • Recognising the Spiritual Call
  • The destiny of the soul - to be a creative agent
  • Crisis as a prelude to expanded consciousness
  • Meditation used by practical mystics
  • Goodwill versus the will to good
  • Enlightened techniques used by practical mystics
  • The mystery of good and evil - an evolutionary perspective
  • Practical mysticism and service through magic
